An unusual North Indian flintlock blunderbuss pistol
An unusual North Indian flintlock blunderbuss pistol, c 1825-1850. The watered steel barrel is chiselled with gold inlaid cartouches containing flowering foliage. The lock and brass sideplate are engraved with foliage. The pistol is fitted with a brass trigger guard and an engraved steel buttcap, the stock is unusually covered with black leather.
Barrel length 7½" (19cms) Overall length 14¼" (36cms).
Flintlock blunderbuss pistols of this form are sometimes found with lacquered stocks, and are ascribed to the Punjab or Kashmir.
