Description:
A scarce Scottish engraved flattened cow horn powder flask dated 1691. The body is engraved with dividers in geometric rosettes and borders together with 2 large thistles. The wooden base plug is engraved F:S:1691. The top edge is carved with a raised and pierced suspension mount whilst the rear corner is also pierced for suspension. Good age patina overall.

Notes:
These flasks have evolved from larger and more elaborately carved earlier 17th century flasks. They are closely associated with N.E. Scotland, particularly Aberdeenshire, Angus and the Mearns.
