An unusual European hall marked silver handled clasp knife
An unusual European hall marked silver handled clasp knife, probably 18th century, possibly Spanish or Scandinavian (?). Blade with clipped back point deeply struck with maker’s mark, back edge nicely shaped and filed, silver suspension loop. Silver hilt struck with crowned town mark (indistinct) and maker’s mark PP within rectangle, chased on both sides with fruiting strawberries issuing from a stylised eagle’s beak, finial in the form of a lion rampant holding an oval shield in its paws engraved with a charge.
Overall length 5” (13cms). Blade length 4¾” (11.7cms).
