Description:
A fine Persian clasp knife Chaqu, late 18th or early 19th century. The broad slightly hollow ground blade of dark finely watered steel (Qum), pierced with 3 small foliate chiselled openings, back edge with 3 raised ribs. Thick gold damascene engraved with flowering foliage. Finely watered dark steel handle mounts with a stylised duck’s head finial and 2 piece walrus ivory grips. See Stone fig 217, and Moser fig 127
