A charming dagger possibly from Hong Kong, early 20th century. Black horn hilt carved with an amusing grotesque face with moving painted eyes in the manner of Japanese Kobe toys, the head surmounted by a carved boxwood cap in the form of a stylised beast’s head. The grip carved with stylised trees. Copper quatrefoil guard made from a Chinese Imperial 20 cash copper coin (Yunnan Province, Kunming Mint) minted in 1906 and used on the borders of Laos, Burma, Vietnam and South China. Blade with intermittent fullers, and filed back edge.
