A 6 shot 120 bore self cocking percussion pepperbox revolver
A 6 shot 120 bore self cocking percussion pepperbox revolver by Joseph Bentley c 1840-1845. The barrels with London proofmarks are fitted with unusual nipples each surrounded by a circular fence with cut out for a flanged nipple key. The foliate engraved rounded frame is engraved By Her Majesty’s Royal Letters Patent J. Bentley Patentee-Improved Revolving Pistol, numbered on the gripstrap 187, and is fitted with two piece walnut grips. Contained in its brass mounted mahogany case, plum velvet lined and containing a Sykes copper powder flask retaining some original finish overall (spring incomplete), ebony handled nipple key with flanged head, steel ball mould, cleaning rod and cap tin. A good clean set, a little rust staining.
