A 38 bore boxlock sidehammer percussion belt pistol
A 38 bore boxlock sidehammer percussion belt pistol, c 1850. The octagonal barrel is engraved Manton Patent London with gilding within the engraving and around the foliate engraved muzzle, and bears Birmingham proof marks. The pistol is fitted with a sprung belt hook, a swivel ramrod, a German silver saw handled grip, frame, furniture and ramrod rib. It is foliate engraved overall, and is contained in its nicely figured walnut case with brass lid escutcheons, blue velvet lined with illustrated trade label of James B. Rowe of Barnstaple, and containing its copper powder flask retaining most original finish, steel ball mould, ebony handled nipple key with pricker, ebony nipple box and cap tin. A good clean set.
