A French percussion holster pistol
A French percussion holster pistol by Lhermite of Saumur, 1840-1855. The 14 bore octagonal barrel of fine etched Damascus twist, is cut with 14 groove rifling. The lock is signed Lhermite Arqr Bte A Saumur. The lock and steel furniture are engraved with foliage. The bell shaped boss on the buttcap unscrews to reveal a cavity for ammunition, the steel ramrod has a powder measuring hollow head. The stock is French walnut, partly carved with foliage and with a fluted grip.This pistol is preserved in crisp condition.
