Description:
An 18 bore flintlock holster pistol by John Collis of Oxford c 1780. The half octagonal swamped barrel is signed Collis Oxford, struck with Tower of London private proof marks, and inlaid with a silver “spider” foresight. The engraved stepped lockplate is signed Collis Oxford. The steel furniture includes an acorn finialled trigger guard, a longspur buttcap with stepped boss, a stepped sideplate engraved with a martial trophy, and a steel escutcheon. The walnut fullstock is nicely carved with a shell apron around the barrel tang. The original wooden ramrod is stuck tight in its ramrod pipes. Good patina overall, (some wear and light pitting to barrel and furniture, traces of repair to grip)
