A good 24 bore flintlock duelling pistol
A good 24 bore flintlock duelling pistol by Bell of York c 1780. The swamped octagonal barrel is engraved York, and struck with London proof marks. The stepped lockplate is signed Bell and a large anti friction roller is fitted to the frizzen spring. The steel furniture is engraved and the pineapple finialled trigger guard is fitted with a bow supported by a column. The walnut fullstock has an octagonal section grip of good form, and is inlaid with a vacant silver escutcheon. It retains its original baleen ramrod which is fitted with a steel worm. The pistol is preserved in untouched condition, and has excellent patina overall.
