Description:
An unusual Victorian cut and polished steel cruciform hilted smallsword by Reeves & Greaves, Manufacturers, 28 Bartholomew St, Birmingham (1845-1849). The hilt is fitted with a crosspiece presumably modelled as a femur (as in “skull and crossed bones”). The hollow ground triangular section blade is signed and etched with foliage, the owner’s initial ‘A’, a vacant escutcheon and a Maltese cross.
