A rococo smallsword
A rococo smallsword, probably N. Europe mid 18th Century. The ormolu hilt chiselled with rocaille and foliate ornament, the grip and quillon block each with trophies of arms behind a close helmet, a male and female mask on the pommel, a hauberk on the knucklebow, and 4 grotesque masks on the shell guards involving shells, foliage and flowers. Colichemarde blade etched with 2 busts amidst strapwork and scrolls. The ormolu retains most of its original gilding.
