A French silver hilted smallsword
A French silver hilted smallsword, hall marked for Paris, 1753. The hilt is chased in relief overall with spiral bands containing fruiting vine and flowering foliage against a punched ground. The blade is of flattened diamond section partly blued and gilt, and etched with a female allegorical figure (France) together with a martial trophy, flowers, foliage and strapwork.
