A French russet gilt hilted smallsword by Dumont c 1754-1760. The hilt chiselled overall with flowers, foliage and rococo ornament in relief against a damascened gold foil “fish roe” ground. The grip is bound with silver wire and tape, with woven turk’s heads. The hollow ground triangular section blade is signed “Dumont. Md Fourbisseur Sur Le pont St Michel a La Justice Royale a Paris” and on the reverse “De La Fabrique de La marque au Raisin a Solingen” together with a military trophy, figure and rococo ornament, and retaining some gilding.
