A scarce Italian silver mounted dagger
Daggers, Knives Dirks,
A scarce Italian silver mounted dagger with combination bodkin, 18th century. The tapered blade which is chiselled at the root is pierced to receive the bodkin, and the back edge has some simple chiselled decoration. The spiral carved horn grip is lined with twisted silver wire; the silver pommel and ferrule are en-suite with a small silver finger loop which terminates in a snake’s head. The grip unscrews to reveal the bodkin.
Blade length 7¼” (18.5cms) Overall length 11½” (29.3cms)
An almost identical “Coltello con passacorda” is described and illustrated in “L’Armeria Reale Di Torino” Bramante Editrice, 1982, No 191
