An interesting Georgian Society gorget
An interesting Georgian Society gorget, of gilt copper c 1800. Applied with the initials “AHLT” twice in silver, and with a fascinating silver badge involving a crest with supporters above the motto “IN NOCTE LAETAMUR”. The badge may well belong to one of the plethora of Georgian Societies which were abundant in British cities at this period: so far, however, we have failed to identify it. Both the badge and motto strongly suggest a carousing aspect of the society.
