An 1803 pattern infantry officer’s sword. The regulation blade is etched with a crowned GR, Royal Arms (1801-1816) together with military trophies and assorted foliage, the back edge is etched J.J. Runkel Solingen. The gilt copper hilt with lion’s head pommel and crowned GR in the guard, and retains most of its original gilding. The grip is covered with white sharkskin and is bound with twisted copper wire. Contained in its leather scabbard with gilt copper mounts, the locket engraved J. Eginton, Birmingham, Sword Cutler and Button Maker to His Royal Highnefs Duke of Kent within a shield, the gilding worn.
