A scarce Victorian special pattern sword
A scarce Victorian special pattern sword for an officer of the Honourable Artillery Company. The straight double edged blade by Sherlock & Co, 15 King St, Covent Garden, London (recorded 1847-1887) etched and polished with HAC amidst profuse foliage, together with the owner’s initials “C.H.I.” (? See picture) and retaining much original polish. The regulation special pattern hilt of gilt brass and retaining much original gilding, with an applied silver grenade and crimson and gold bullion dress knot. The grip is covered with sharkskin and bound with copper wire. Contained in its leather scabbard with brass mounts retaining traces of original gilding.
