A Georgian Light Cavalry officer’s sword of 1796 pattern type. The broad blade with single edge and single fuller etched with crowned GRIII (faint) and traces of other devices. The gilt brass stirrup hilt retains most of its original gilding, the pommel chiselled as a lion’s head. The ivory grip carved with ridges. Contained in its leather covered wooden scabbard with extensive gilt copper mounts retaining much of their original gilding.
