A charming Georgian naval officer’s dirk c. 1800. The slender tapered blade of diamond section. The hilt with gilt brass mounts retaining virtually all the original gilding, the guard chiselled in the form of a realistic cockle shell, the ferrule with bands of beading and Greek key pattern, the grip of turned ivory, the spherical pommel surmounted by a chiselled lion’s head. Contained in its leather sheath with bright gilt brass mounts and twin hanging rings.
