A Victorian 1846 pattern naval officer’s sword by Galt c 1850. The broad regulation blade is etched “GALT Naval & Regimental TAILOR Portsmouth” with the crowned Victorian Royal Arms and fouled anchor amidst scrolling foliage. The regulation brass hilt retaining some original gilding with lion’s head pommel, crowned fouled anchor in guard, and with a sprung folding sideguard. The grip is covered with sharkskin and bound with twisted copper wire. Contained in its leather scabbard with regulation brass mounts, the locket with two suspension rings and with maker’s elaborated device on the reverse.
