The 1827 pattern Georgian naval officer's sword of Alexander Glen RN. The pipe back blade is etched with the crowned Royal Arms, a crowned fouled anchor, the owner's initials A.G., assorted foliage and "Alexander Glen R.N.-Malabar 1832 to 34-Wolf 1834 to 39-Thunderer 1840-42-Obit Malta 1842 Aetat 25" within banners. The regulation gilt brass hilt retains nearly all of its original gilding with a deeply chiselled lion's head pommel, the crowned fouled anchor in the guard, and with a folding sideguard. The sharkskin covered grip is bound with twisted copper wire. Contained in its leather scabbard with gilt copper mounts which retain nearly all their original gilding.
