An 1845 pattern infantry officer's sword
An 1845 pattern infantry officer's sword by Smith & Son, 12 Piccadilly, London. The blade is etched and polished with the crowned V.R. cypher amidst foliage. The regulation brass hilt retains some original gilding, the guard with crowned V.R. above the Union flowers, with folding sideguard. The grip is covered with sharkskin and bound with twisted copper wire. Contained in its brass scabbard with twin hanging rings. The blade retains most of its original polish.
