A rare Medieval mail collar or "standard" c 1400-1450
A rare Medieval mail collar or "standard" c 1400-1450, composed of 8 rows of tightly fitted rivetted links of rounded section with a border row of much smaller links, the central 40 of which are of latten (brass). Beneath these rows is a curtain of looser oval links of flattened section formed into 5 points. The collar retains 2 rivets which secured the original fasteneing strap, a trace of which remains beneath one rivet head.
