An 1827 pattern Rifle Officer's sword
An 1827 pattern Rifle Officer's sword of the Cambridge University Rifles, c 1866-1867. The blade, by E. THURKLE Sword Manufacturer 104 High Holborn, London, is etched and mirror polished with crowned VR cypher, arms of Cambridge above a strung bugle all amidst foliage, together with the owner's initials L.E.R. Regulation steel guard and chequered gripstrap. The grip is covered with black fishskin and bound with twisted silver wire. Contained in its polished steel dress scabbard. The blade retains most of its original polish.
