A very fine Victorian officer's sword

A very fine Victorian officer's sword of the New Zealand Colonial Defence Force. The blade by Henry Wilkinson No 12734 of best quality, finely etched and mirror polished with crowned VR cypher and regimental badges within foliage, sharpened for field service. The steel guard is of a pattern issued to several Scottish regiments and is pierced with engraved foliage, the gripstrap is chequered. The grip is covered with fishskin and bound with twisted silver wire. Contained in ist steel dress scabbard. The blade is of particularly fine quality and is preserved in almost mint condition.

Wilkinsons confirm that this sword was built 1-9-1863 and supplied to Messrs Anderson. For the pattern of hilt see Robson 1996 No 179.
