A Victorian Rifle officer's 1827 pattern sword
A Victorian Rifle officer's 1827 pattern sword fitted with a Royal Engineers blade. The blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, No 18964 is etched and polished with crowned VR cypher, laurel wreath, regimental title and device amidst scrolling foliage together with the owner's initials H.L.M. Steel guard and chequered gripstrap of regulation pattern, the grip is covered with fishskin and bound with twisted German silver wire. Black leather dress knot, contained in its steel dress scabbard.

Wilkinsons confirm that this sword was supplied to a Royal Engineer 12.06.1873. Henry Lyle Mulholland, Lieut 29. Oct 1873-1878 RE, and presumably transferred to a Rifle Unit.
