An 1827 pattern officer's sword
An 1827 pattern officer's sword of the Chatsworth Rifles. The blade by Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall, London, No 6623 is etched with the crowned VR cypher, Chatsworth Rifles, and regimental devices within scrolling foliage together with the owner's crest, motto and initials F.W.A. The steel hilt of regulation pattern, the grip is covered with fishskin and bound with twisted silver wire. Contained in its steel scabbard.

Wilkinsons confirm that this sword was supplied 20.6.1854. Ferdinand William Arkwright, Chatsworth Rifles (2nd Derby Militia), late 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, Capt 23.5.1855, Senior Capt by 1867. Previously Ensign 9.8.1833 in the 47th (Lancs) Regt, Lieut 15.12.1837 4th R.I.D.G., Capt 14.7.1843
