An 1845 pattern Infantry officer's sword. The blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London No 18828 is etched with crowned VR cypher amidst scrolling foliage, together with the owner's initials J.W. J. and is sharpened for field service. The brass guard of regulation pattern, the grip is covered with fishskin and is bound with twisted copper wire. Contained in its steel dress scabbard.
Blade length 32¼" (82cms) Overall length including scabbard 39½" (100.3cms).
