A German infantryman's regulation short sabre
A German infantryman's regulation short sabre, mid 18th century. The blade is slightly curved and cut with a single narrow fuller, and has some pitting on one side. The brass stirrup hilt with a pair of langets (one incomplete), brass gripstrap. The wooden grip has lost most of its leather covering. This sword is preserved in an old coat of dried oil.
