A Sinhalese ivory
A Sinhalese ivory, silver and brass mounted knife Piha Kaetta, probably late 18th Century. Ivory grips carved with stylised plumage, brass ferrule chiselled en-suite and inlaid with silver. Silver pommel and mounts finely embossed and chased with scrolling foliage. the back fullers and forte of the blade inlaid with thick silver deeply chiselled and engraved with flowers and foliage. In brass mounted wooden sheath. Excellent condition, a narrow band of silver inlay missing from the root of the brass ferrule on one side.
