A good 19th Century Sudanese Mahdist period sword Kaskara. The straight double edged blade is etched full length on both sides with an Arabic inscription of the Hadith "there is no hero like Ali, there is no sword like Zulfukar" and extensive inscriptions in thuluth script. The brass crosspiece has swollen quillon terminals and down pointing langets. The grip and pommel are bound with leather. Contained in its leather covered scabbard. Good age patina overall.
