A 19th Century Sudanese Mahdist period sword Kaskara. The heavy double edged blade is etched on both sides with extensive Arabic inscriptions and cartouches, and cut with a short single fuller. The iron crosspiece with swollen quillons and down pointing langets, the grip is bound with leather. Contained in its leather scabbard with iron suspension rings and leather belt.
