A fine swept hilt rapier
A fine swept hilt rapier, c 1620. The blade of flattened diamond seciton is deeply struck in the fullers with IVAN MARTINEZ EN TOLEDO - IN TE DOMINE SPERAVI together with the maker's marks, all within chiselled borders. The finely wrought hilt composed of nicely swollen and facetted bars, the swollen pommel has 18 sides. The later grip is nicely bound with twisted iron wire with woven turk's heads. Excellent condition and patina.
