An English hunting hanger c 1700. The straight blade is cut with a narrow fuller and is deeply struck with a maker’s mark. The chiselled brass hilt incorporates a shell guard chiselled with the legend of Orpheus, with various figures on the pommel, quillon block and knucklebow. The one piece grip is “reeded” and made from a single piece of horn.
