A brass framed brass barrelled Queen Anne style boxlock flintlock travelling pistol by Archer, London c 1780. The frame is engraved with the maker within foliate banners and bears private Tower of London proofmarks. The cannon barrel unscrews for loading. The frizzen spring is sunk into the breech, and the trigger guard slides forward to operate the safety mechanism. The walnut butt is inlaid with scrolling silver wire.

Thomas Archer 1776-1807 worked as a gunmaker 14 Lichfield Street, Birmingham and marked his guns “London”.
