An English pikeman’s pot
An English pikeman’s pot, mid 17th Century. The two piece skull is joined by a low comb with turned over seam. The broad brim has a turned edge and ornamental rivet heads, and is deeply struck with crowned IR arsenal mark of the reign of James II. The helmet retains both pairs of original rivets which held the (missing) ear flaps. The outer surface has light superficial rust which would clean easily to leave a pleasing homogenous and unpitted finish.
