Description:
An unusual 16 bore Flobert’s patent DB pin fire sporting gun retailed by C J Smith, London, No 3947. The ribbon twist barrels are stamped E. Bernard Brevete 17.4 (mm) together with his marks and 3947-912; the rib is engraved “C.J. SMITH PRINCES STT LEICESTER SQUARE, LONDON”. The action, back action locks and steel furniture are inlaid gold and silver flowers within strapwork borders. The figured walnut stock is fitted with sling swivels. Good age patina overall (small dent in left barrel)

Charles James Smith, gunmaker, is recorded at several addresses in London and Birmingham 1844-1852. Eugene Bernard, canonnier is recorded in Liege c 1840-1855, and also signed barrels of Lefaucheux revolvers, his mark is recorded in Stockel No 7097
