An unusual and good quality 12 bore snap action pin fire sporting gun by Lloyd of Lewes, c 1855. The Damascus twist barrels are engraved “LLOYD LEWES”, London black powder proof marks for 13 bore, the lump is stamped with the barrel maker’s initials J.S. The signed locks and steel furniture are finely engraved with scrolling foliage. A sliding thumb catch releases the barrels, the London proved fore end is hinged and covered by the chequered fore end which is fitted with a sliding wedge to secure the barrels to it. The figured walnut stock is fitted with a vacant silver escutcheon, and a horn tip to the fore end. Excellent age patina and traces of original finish overall.
