A 12 bore pin fire sporting gun by Gasquoine and Dyson, Manchester No 1586 c 1855-1860. The stub twist barrels are engraved “GASQUOINE & DYSON, MARKET PLACE, MANCHESTER. No 1586” and struck with London proof marks. The signed locks, action and steel furniture are finely engraved with scrolling foliage, gun dogs and game birds. The barrels are secured by a rotary underlever. The figured walnut stock has a chequered grip and wedge fastened fore end, and is fitted with a vacant silver escutcheon. The butt is chequered and fitted with a 2 part buttcap. Good age patina overall, the left hammer is a working life replacement

Gasquoine & Dyson are recorded at 26 Market Place, Manchester, Lancashire 1854-1869. The engraving on this gun is particularly pleasing.
